We were out for a drive the other day, and we saw all these sheep there were so many of them, it was like a sheep farm (probably where they were coming from). It was so cool I have never seen anything like it before! And I may never see anything like it again.
After they left there was tons of pooh on the road it was so smelly but yet still cool.

Olives in the Moutains

Sicilians and Italians are crazy about olives. They put olives in everything. Especially in pizza, Sicilians and Italians are crazy about them too! But it's like they can't have a meal without something having them. I mean I'm not complaining, it's just amazing!

When we were up on the moutain the other day and my mom got some great pictures of some olives. Some up close and some a little more far away.

This picture here is me favorite even though it only shows two it is still my favorite. Do you see how dark they are That means they are ready to pick!
I have another picture of some olives . It shows more olives but I like this one up here better.
You can see these are much bigger but they aren't ripe yet. You can also see there are much more olives here than before. But you can also see these are dirty, but are still ediable.
Buon Natale,Merry Christmas!

Pictures of Islands from Sicily

Sicily is such a wonderful place to be, all the sun and joy around you! Especially when you can see other islands!!! We were up on the mountains the other day and I got this great picture of other islands!I tried to get as close up to it as I could hope you like it! My mom said it is at least 4 islands, isn't that cool!

Isn't that picture cool? I thought so...that is the closest picture I have of them!

Leave me your comments, I can't wait to read them.
A Dopo! (See you Later)!

Sicily

Did you know that Sicily (Italian and Sicilian: Sicilia) is the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea and an autonomous region of Italy? Minor islands around it are also considered to be part of Sicily.

Throughout much of its history, Sicily has been considered a crucial strategic location due in large part to its importance for Mediterranean trade routes. The area was highly regarded as part of Magna Graecia, with Cicero describing Siracusa as the greatest and most beautiful city of all Ancient Greece.

The island was once a city-state in its own right, and as the Kingdom of Sicily ruled from Palermo over southern Italy, Sicily, and Malta. It later became a part of the Two Sicilies under the Bourbons, a kingdom governed from Naples that comprised both the island itself and most of Southern Italy. The Italian unification of 1860 led to the dissolution of this kingdom, and Sicily became an autonomous part of the Kingdom of Italy. Sicily is today an autonomous region of Italy. Of all the regions of Italy, Sicily covers the largest land area at 25,708 square kilometres (9,926 sq mi) and currently has just over five million inhabitants.

Sicily has its own unique culture, especially with regard to the arts, cuisine, architecture and language. The Sicilian economy is largely based on agriculture (mainly orange and lemon orchards); this same rural countryside has attracted significant tourism in the modern age as its natural beauty is highly regarded. Sicily also holds importance for archeological and ancient sites such as the Necropolis of Pantalica and the Valley of the Temples.

The Sicilian economy is plagued by organized crime, the Cosa Nostra being the oldest of Italian mobs. The overall income of criminal associations in Italy (including 'Ndrangheta and Camorra) was estimated to be 63 billion Euros annually, or 7 percent of the Italian economy.

The Climate in Sicily,
Sicily's location means that it has a Mediterranean climate with mild to warm, wet winters and warm to hot, dry summers.

The History of Sicily,
Ancient tribes
The original inhabitants of Sicily were three defined groups of the Ancient peoples of Italy. The most prominent and by far the earliest of which was the Sicani, who according to Thucydides arrived from the Iberian Peninsula (perhaps Catalonia). Important historical evidence has been discovered in the form of cave drawings by the Sicani, dated from the end of the Pleistocene Epoch, around 8000 BC. The arrival of the first humans is correlated with extinction of dwarf hippos and dwarf elephants. The Elymians, thought to be from the Aegean Sea, were the next tribe to migrate to join the Sicanians on Sicily.

Although there is no evidence of any wars between the tribes, when the Elymians settled in the north-west corner of the island, the Sicanians moved across eastwards. From mainland Italy, thought to originally have been Ligures from Liguria came the Sicels in 1200 BC; forcing the Sicanians to move back across Sicily settling in the middle of the island. The Phoenicians also were early settlers before the Greeks.

The Kingdom of Sicily,
Palermo continued on as the capital under the Normans. Roger's son, Roger II of Sicily, was ultimately able to raise the status of the island to a kingdom in 1130, along with his other holdings which included the Duchy of Apulia and Calabria and the Maltese Islands. During this period the Kingdom of Sicily was prosperous and politically powerful, becoming one of the wealthiest states in all of Europe; even wealthier than England.

Significantly, immigrants from Northern Italy and Campania arrived during this period. Linguistically, the island became Latinised. In terms of church, it would become completely Roman Catholic; previously, under the Byzantines, it had been more Eastern Christian.

Depiction of the Sicilian VespersAfter a century the Norman Hauteville dynasty died out, the last direct descendent and heir of Roger; Constance married Emperor Henry VI. This eventually led to the crown of Sicily been passed on to the Hohenstaufen Dynasty who were Germans from Swabia. Conflict between the Hohenstaufen house and the Papacy, led in 1266 to Pope Innocent IV crowning Angevin Dynasty duke Charles I as the king of both Sicily and Naples.

Strong opposition of the French officialdom due to mistreatment and taxation saw the local peoples of Sicily rise up, leading in 1282 to an insurrection known as the War of the Sicilian Vespers, which eventually saw almost the entire French population on the island killed. During the war the Sicilians turned to Peter III, son-in-law of the last Hohenstaufen king, of the Kingdom of Aragon for support after being rejected by the Pope. Peter gained control of Sicily from the French though the French retained control of the Kingdom of Naples. The wars continued until the peace of Caltabellotta in 1302, which saw Peter's son Frederick III recognised as king of the Isle of Sicily, while Charles II was recognised as the king of Naples by Pope Boniface VIII. Sicily was ruled as an independent kingdom by relatives of the kings of Aragon until 1409 and then as part of the Crown of Aragon. In October of 1347, in Messina, Sicily, the Black Death first arrived in Europe.

Sicilian Baroque in CataniaThe Spanish Inquisition in 1492 saw Ferdinand II decreeing the expulsion of every single Jew from Sicily. The island was hit by two very serious earthquakes in the east in both 1542 and 1693, just a few years before the latter earthquake the island was struck by a ferocious plague. There were revolts during the 17th century, but these were quelled with significant force especially the revolts of Palermo and Messina. The Treaty of Utrecht in 1713 saw Sicily assigned to the House of Savoy, however this period of rule lasted only seven years as it was exchanged for the island of Sardinia with Emperor Charles VI of the Austrian Habsburg Dynasty.

While the Austrians were concerned with the War of the Polish Succession, a Bourbon prince, Charles from Spain was able to conquer Sicily and Naples. At first Sicily was able to remain as an independent kingdom under personal union, while the Bourbons ruled over both from Naples. However the advent of Napoleon's First French Empire saw Naples taken at the Battle of Campo Tenese and Bonapartist Kings of Naples were instated. Ferdinand III the Bourbon was forced to retreat to Sicily which he was still in complete control of with the help of British naval protection.

Following this Sicily joined the Napoleonic Wars, after the wars were won Sicily and Naples formally merged as the Two Sicilies under the Bourbons. Major revolutionary movements occurred in 1820 and 1848 against the Bourbon government with Sicily seeking independence; the second of which, the 1848 revolution was successful and resulted in a period of independence for Sicily.

Italian unification

Salvatore Giuliano (1922–1950), a Sicilian bandit and separatist mythologized after his death as a kind of Robin HoodAfter the Expedition of the Thousand led by Giuseppe Garibaldi, Sicily became part of the Kingdom of Italy in 1860 as part of the risorgimento. The conquest started at Marsala and was finally completed with the Siege of Gaeta where the final Bourbons were expelled and Garibaldi announced his dictatorship in the name of Victor Emmanuel II of Sardinia. An anti-Savoy revolt pushing for Sicilian independence erupted in 1866 at Palermo; it was quelled brutally by the Italians within a week.

Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa wrote in his book Il Gattopardo that the Sicilians viewed the unification of Italy as a conquest of the south by the north. The Sicilian (and the wider mezzogiorno) economy collapsed, leading to an unprecedented wave of emigration. Organizations of workers and peasants known as the Fasci Siciliani, who were leftist and separatist groups, rose and caused the Italian government to impose martial law again in 1894. The Messina earthquake of December 28, 1908 killed over 80,000 people.

The Mafia, a loose confederation of organized crime networks, grew in influence in the late 19th century; the Fascist regime began suppressing them in the 1920s with considerable success. There was an allied invasion of Sicily during World War II starting on July 10, 1943. In preparation of the invasion of Sicily, the Allies revitalised the Mafia to aid them. The invasion of Sicily was one of the causes of the July 25 crisis; in general the Allied victors were warmly embraced by the Sicilian population.

Italy became a Republic in 1946 and as part of the Constitution of Italy, Sicily was one of the five regions given special status as an autonomous region. Both the partial Italian land reform and special funding from the Italian government's Cassa per il Mezzogiorno (Fund for the South) from 1950 to 1984, helped the Sicilian economy improve. Well I hope you in joy all of that,

Just kidding it seems fine to me.
That day I was all excited, it was the first time we were on the beach in a while. Please feel free to leave me any of your comment's.

Prince and the Pauper

Yesterday, I also watched The Prince and the Pauper the Movie. It wasn't the first time I saw it but I thought since I was studing in school I would watch it again. As you may see on the picture The Sprouse brothers are in this movie. "Cole and Dylan Sprouse" Also Kay Panabaker from Fame is in this movie , also, Dedee Pfeiffer from Journey to the Center of the Earth.
Got to bye guys Bye!

Hannah Montana the Movie

Yesterday, I borrowed Hannah Montana the Movie from the library. And it was really good. I mean I don't really like Hannah Montana or Miley Cyrus. But it was good movie, it was about showing Miley what it is like to be a normal kid. Before I saw this movie I thought that it would end the Hannah Montana show but...I was wrong. I used to be crazy for Miley and Hannah but now I think that celebrities are just normal people. Yeah sure they have great jobs that everyone wants and they are in movies and get awards. But they are just normal people who have great life's. And tons of money!!!!!!Now back to talking about the movie. Lucas Till and Taylor Swift were in the movie. I love Taylor Swift she is so cool, and she was born in my state. And yes Taylor Swift is a country singer but I think some of her songs are more pop then country. Also, mostly everyone from the show is in the movie. Emily Osment, Mitchel Musso, Moises Arias, Jason Earles, Billy Ray Cyrus, and of course Miley Cyrus. Also, Vanessa Williams VII "the seventh" from Ugly Betty, and Melora Hardin from 17 again. I to start school so bye!

What is your favorite Cereal?

This is a picture of the cereal Corn Pops. I eat these almost every week or everyday. They are the most corny cereal I have every met. HAHAHA Anyway, Once I wrote a persuasive paper for school trying to convince people to eat these cereals. I had graphs and everything. It was fun to write but it took a long time to do it. The whole point of doing this is to see what your favorite cereal is. The way this is going to work is I will list a bunch of different cereal's and you will leave me a comment telling me what your favorite cereal is on that list. I will also have pictures of some of the cereals so you know what I'm talking about.
This is a picture of Honey bunches of Oats Honey Roasted. This is good cereal but I don't eat this everyday...just some times. I love it, this is the only kind I like of Honey bunches of Oats. I also like posts Just Bunches. I snack on them all the time but they are not something I would eat for breakfast. I tried putting milk in with them and they didn't taste to good. But we will talk more about that later, now we are talking about Honey Bunches of Oats. So yes Honey Bunches of Oats is good but some times I get sick of eating them. Also, I think you can get them in chocolate and I don't think that will taste to good ether.
Just bunches
I tried getting a picture of Just Bunches but when I put it on it came out as Honey Bunches of Oats and I didn't want to look for the right picture. So I put no picture on of it. But yes Just Bunches is a good cereal to snack on but not something I would have for Breakfast. But maybe I have to put more cereal in, I only put a little bit in so I will have to try it again. I will tell you my results of it later:
Here is a list of Cereals:
  • Corn Pops
  • Honey Bunches of Oats
  • Just Bunches
  • Rice Krispies
  • Corn Flakes

I also put up a poll about it so if you can't leave me a comment you can do the poll. Bye!

Bat's in the Attic

My mom needs to get stuff out of my grandmother's attic before we move, but when my grandmother went up there the other day she saw a bat! I don't know if was just one bat, but there was a bat. The last time my mom and I went up there, there was not bat, but there was rat poop everywhere! My mom didn't want me to step in the poop so I was just standing in a space that I wouldn't get in the way. After a while my legs started falling a sleep and when she told me it was time to go I couldn't move! But that was a while ago, so I don't remember all the details.

Did you ever want to know more about bats? Well here is stuff I found off of the internet:

Bats may be the most misunderstood animals in the United States, although as consumers of enormous numbers of insects, they rank among the most beneficial. Almost all United States bats, and 70 percent of the bat species worldwide, feed almost exclusively on insects and are thus extremely beneficial. In fact, bats are the only major predators of night-flying insects. One bat can eat between 600 and 1,000 mosquitoes and other insect pests in just one hour.
While most United States bat species are insectivorous, bats in other parts of the world feed on a variety of items in addition to insects. Many species feed primarily on fruit, while several types feed on nectar and pollen. Fruit bats perform an extremely important function as seed dispersers. Nectar eating bats, including the federally-listed endangered lesser long-nosed (Leptonycteris curasoae yerbabuenae) and greater Mexican long-nosed bats (Leptonycteris nivalis), are important pollinators. Many plant species depend almost entirely on bats for pollination.
Of the 45 species of bats found in the continental United States, six are federally-listed as endangered under the Endangered Species Act of 1973, as amended. These species include the:

In addition, populations of several of the remaining species, especially cave-dwelling species, appear to be declining.

If you want to see the site for your self here is the link:http://www.fws.gov/Endangered/bats/bats.htm

Have a good day, Bye

Adobe Buildings

Hi Everyone! I'm sorry I didn't start writing on the top I just didn't want to get my words all mixed up.
Above me I have a picture of an adobe building!I learned about this in my American history class, also it was one of my spelling words for this week.
I hope this all makes sense I was just typing away!"Written after I typed what is below"
Adobe is a natural building material made from sand, clay, and water, with some kind of fibrous or organic material (sticks, straw, dung), which is shaped into bricks using frames and dried in the sun. It is similar to cob and mudbrick. Adobe structures are extremely durable and account for some of the oldest extant buildings on the planet. In hot climates, compared to wooden buildings, adobe buildings offer significant advantages due to their greater thermal mass, but they are known to be particularly susceptible to seismic damage in an event such as an earthquake.[1]
Buildings made of sun-dried earth are common in the Middle East, North Africa, South America, southwestern North America, and in Spain (usually in the Mudéjar style). Adobe had been in use by indigenous peoples of the Americas in the Southwestern United States, Mesoamerica, and the Andean region of South America for several thousand years, although often substantial amounts of stone are used in the walls of Pueblo buildings.[2] (Also, the Pueblo people built their adobe structures with handfuls or basketfuls of adobe, until the Spanish introduced them to the making of bricks.) Adobe brickmaking was used in Spain already in the Late Bronze Age and Iron Age, from the eighth century B.C. on. [3] Its wide use can be attributed to its simplicity of design and make, and the cheapness thereby in creating it.[4]
A distinction is sometimes made between the smaller adobes, which are about the size of ordinary baked bricks, and the larger adobines, some of which are as much as from one to two yards (2 m) long.
I hope that explains all about adobe buildings! Aren't adobe buildings exciting?

E-matic MP3 Player

Hi Everyone,
Today I got a MP3 player! I had one before but it was a barbie girl MP3 player and I told my mom "I'm getting to big for this". So I told her if she bought one for me I would pay for half of it, and...she said yes!
I got a E-matic Mp3 player. It's so cool, when we got home today we saw a box on the chair on our porch. I went to get it and I opened it and there it was! I was so excited I turned our computer on and started charging it! Then my mom came over and we put tons of songs on it. I was so excited, but when I saw how small it was I was a little disappointed, but it's worth it. I got it from Walmart for $27.00!!! And it wasn't on sale! We originally were going to get it from Target, but I went on Walmart to see if they had it in purple "they didn't"and when I saw it was $27.00 I told my mom to get it there! As you can see in the picture it's green, but what you can't see is it has a built in microphone! I don't know where it is...YET. I read SOME of the manual but I was so excited I didn't want to read more! I was just listening to it and it was so cool I could see what song I was listening to! With my last Mp3 player I didn't have a screen or a hold button! Also it can last up to 10 hours without charging!

Today my mom and I went shopping. We went to Target, this Italian place called Russo's, and two libraries. It was really fun, I always have fun when I'm shopping with my mom!
Well I have to go listen to my songs,
See you later.
Bye!

Do you want to know about Club Penguin?

I got this off of this site:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Club_Penguin
Club Penguin is an MMOG (massively multiplayer online game) involving a virtual world containing a range of online games and activities, developed by Club Penguin Entertainment (formerly New Horizon Interactive). Using cartoon penguins as avatars, players waddle around, chat, play minigames and participate in other activities with one another in a snow-covered virtual world. After beta-testing, Club Penguin was made available to the general public on October 24, 2005[1] and has since expanded into a large online community — growing to the extent that by late 2007, it was claimed that Club Penguin had over 12 million user accounts.[2] While free memberships are available, revenue is predominantly raised through paid memberships which allow players to access a range of additional features, (such as the ability to purchase virtual clothing, furniture and "pets", also called puffles, for their penguins through the use of in-game currency).[3] The success of Club Penguin led to New Horizon being purchased by The Walt Disney Company in August 2007 for the sum of $350 million, with an additional $350 million in bonuses should specific targets be met by 2009.[2]
The game is designed for children between the ages of 6 and 14 years old.[4] Thus a major focus of the developers has been on child safety,[5] with a number of features introduced to the game to facilitate this — including offering an "Ultimate Safe Chat" mode, whereby users select their comments from a menu; filtering that prevents swearing and the revelation of personal information;[5] and moderators (along with veteran players) who police the game.[6] Nevertheless, the game has had a degree of criticism, including claims that it teaches consumerism[7] and that some players "cheat" to improve their status.[8]
Well that's it!!!! Little P

Julie Chen Is Expecting First Child

The show co-anchor told viewers she's pregnant with her first child. Chen, who's married to CBS Corporation President And CEO Les Moonves, said, "I am expecting my first child." Rubbing her tummy, Chen continued, "So it wasn't a big Sunday at the buffet table. I'm starting to show now! And my due date is Oct. 4. So, fingers crossed, and ... I'm not taking maternity leave from (the CBS show) "Big Brother," which she hosts. "I e-mailed my boss over there this weekend and I said, 'Don't worry. I can still do the show!" The babies, named Adele Georgiana Ringwald Gianopoulos and Roman Stylianos Ringwald Gianopoulos, join their 5-year-old sister, Mathilda Ereni.
The fraternal twins are the second and third children for the couple, who married in Italy in 2007 after dating since 2003.
Molly Ringwald is 41 years old.
The Adele was born at 9:01 am and Roman was born at 9:04 am.

My Used Nintendo DS

These are pictures of my Used Nintendo DS!
I got it a couple of weeks ago. It is awesome!
I play it all the time. But not every minute of
everyday. School comes first!
I got it at Game Stop, a used Nintendo was $84.
But Nintendo Lite is $110. I paid $110.
This is what "Nintendo Lite" means it just means that it has a better lite then most of them.
And not I didn't spell "Lite" wrong that's the way
it's spelled instead of L-I-G-H-T.
I saved up this money for 3 years! How long is that?
This what it looks like in the inside.
As you can see I got a pink one! My sister has a
red one but hers is red on the outside and black
on the inside. Did you know they just made a
Nintendo DSi? Well they did! It has one camera
on the outside and one on the inside to take
pictures of yourself. But the DSi can't play Game
Boy games. But the DS can! That is what I like
about the DS! I have tuns of Game Boy games.

Now this below me is one of my DS games.
I have three, Cooking mama " Which is the picture", Imagine Fashion Designer, and Bratz Fashion. I love them all!
Hope you have a happy week bye!

Thanks to Columbus!

Thanks to Columbus! I know today isn't Columbus day but I just wanted to talk about him!
Columbus found North America! But what he really found was the Dominican Republic!
The Dominican Republic is a nation on the of Hispaniola. Hispaniola is the second- largest and most populous island of the Antilles. The Antilles refers to the island forming the greater part of the west Indies in the Caribbean Sea. The Antilles divided into two major groups the: " Greater Antilles" to the north including the larger islands of Cuba, Jamaica, Hispaniola, ( Haiti and the Dominican Republic ) and Puerto Rico.

PSSA'S and the stress they give

If you don't know what a PSSA (Pennsylvania System of School Assessment) is then I will tell you. It's a test all the 3rd graders and some other grades take in my state. Before I was homeschooled we had the PSSA'S for 2 weeks!!
But with the PSSA'S this year I only had to take them for 2 days. That was a lot of stress taken off of me!! Here's a question: Would you rather have a test where you would take one part everyday for 2 weeks OR get it over with in 2 days? One of my friends wasn't sleeping three days before the PSSA'S this year. I think she was getting a lot of stress from it. I mean I would if I had to take them for two weeks! Before I was homeschooled I was really nervous myself! But it was much better this year!!!
